Kenneth A. Smith Ph.D., Dean
ISU College of Business
From Dean Kenneth Smith…
Welcome to the Idaho State University College of Business Web site and thank you for your interest in our offerings.
We prepare students to become business leaders in a world fueled by knowledge-based human capital. The information age demands technologically sophisticated leaders grounded in contemporary business practices and who possess the communicative and behavioral skills most sought by employers. The college’s inspired faculty provides students a program of fundamental knowledge, new ideas, big dreams and technological horizons. With a low student-faculty ratio of 14.2 to 1, our students enjoy the kind of accessibility and relationships with their instructors that other schools simply cannot provide.
This all takes place in the outdoor wonderland that is Southeastern Idaho, with backpacking, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, alpine and Nordic skiing located within 15 minutes of campus. We are also only 2.5 hours from the Tetons, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone National Park, Sun Valley and the Sawtooth Recreation area.
Accredited by AACSB International, the ISU College of Business is rightfully known as “one of the best business schools in the world.” We emphasize a mentoring-style teaching approach where students participate in cohorts throughout their business coursework and utilize laptop computers extensively both in and outside of the classroom Unlike other business schools, we also provide a unique, coordinated course sequence that reinforces critical thinking, writing, communication and presentation skills in order to better prepare students for rapid assimilation into the world of business and on to jump on the fast track for leadership positions.
High-quality instruction is a hallmark of the ISU College of Business. Faculty members have an average of over 15 years of teaching experience, and more than 85 percent hold a doctoral degree in their specific field. Additional faculty qualifications, including professional business experience, professional certification, published research papers, articles and books and other accomplishments enrich the courses they teach. Our learning environment is truly a convergence of intellectual assets and modern technology.
We offer Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in seven majors: accounting, computer information systems, finance, general business, health care information technology, management, and marketing. Within these majors, students may choose an emphasis in entrepreneurship/small business, human resource management or operations management. Minors are available in computer information systems and international commerce. Minors in business administration and marketing are available to non-business majors in the university.
Our Master of Business Administration (MBA) program continues to grow and our innovative Native American Business Administration (NABA) prepares Native American students for careers as entrepreneurs, business managers and administrators.
