History:
IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY
Idaho State University (ISU) was established in 1901 as the Academy of Idaho and became a four-year institution in 1947. Currently, ISU is one of three state universities in the Idaho higher education system, which also houses one state college, two state two-year colleges, and one technical college. Enrollment at ISU for spring 2008 approached 14,000 students. ISU is located in Pocatello, a metropolitan area of about 55,000 nestled in the mountains of southeastern Idaho.
ISU's academic programs include nationally recognized courses of study in business, pharmacy, and the health professions. In addition, other colleges within the university provide teacher education, engineering programs, and arts and sciences majors in many fields. Applied technology training through the College of Technology prepares students for employment in industry.
ISU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
The College of Business, founded in 1963, offers high quality business education. Its undergraduate and graduate programs in both business and accounting are nationally accredited by the AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The College of Business is committed to providing the business education and training needed by those entering today's complex economy. It also equips graduates with the skills needed to meet the challenges presented by a constantly-changing business environment.
The college offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in five majors: accounting, computer information systems, finance, management, and marketing. Within the majors, students may choose an emphasis in entrepreneurship/small business, human resource management or operations management. Minors are available in computer information systems and international commerce. Minors in business administration and marketing are available to non-business majors in the university.
High-quality instruction is a hallmark of the ISU College of Business. Faculty members have an average of over fifteen years of teaching experience, and over 85% hold a doctoral degree in their specific field. Additional faculty qualifications, including professional business experience, professional certification, published research papers, articles and books, and other accomplishments enrich the courses they teach.
The College of Business has a commitment to students. At ISU, students are provided easy access to expert guidance in their studies. The faculty has an active concern for the progress of every student and works to help students meet their career objectives.
Idaho State University and the College of Business primarily serve students from Southeast Idaho and the Intermountain West. About three percent of the student body comprises international students. The college places graduates throughout the Western United States and nationally.
Pocatello, a community of 55,000 people, hosts one corporate headquarters (AMI Semiconductor Inc.) along with several fairly large regional installations (J.R. Simplot Minerals and Chemical Division plant, two regional insurance company offices), and other small industrial operations. In the accounting area, our program attracts recruiters from regional, national, and international accounting firms and business enterprises.
