The finance major is designed to prepare future business leaders and scholars
for success in the fields of business finance, financial institutions, and
investment management. We focus on the fundamental principles within each
of these fields with an emphasis on value management.
Are you also interested in accounting, CIS, marketing, or management? We
welcome double majors from each of these disciplines.
Majoring in Finance at ISU
Finance is a quantitative discipline that requires a good understanding of
accounting and economics. Those entering the field of finance should have an
interest in understanding financial analysis, forecasting, and valuation.
How do you know if a major in finance is for you? One way is to assess
your performance in your first finance courses. All business majors at
Idaho State University must take Finance 315 and Finance 317. If you
perform well in these courses you may have an aptitude or an interest in
finance, and we certainly hope that you will consider finance as your
major. If you get Cs and Ds in these courses you would do well to major
in another discipline. Past experience indicates that such students have
a very difficult time in upper-division finance courses.
